Total international passenger volumes through Auckland International Airport increased by 5.3% in SEP11 versus SEP10. Overseas international passenger arrivals were up 33.8% on SEP10 largely due to the Rugby World Cup, offsetting softer than usual NZ outbound travel.

There was a 708% surge in visitors from France in September as the Rugby World Cup geared up. Stuff website’s BusinessDesk says AKL handled 8,658 visitors from France, up from 1,072 in the same month last year. The airport handled 19,157 pax arriving from the UK last month, up 121%, and there was a 59% rise in the number of visitors from
Canada, 4.4% rise in arrivals from Japan and 9.3% rise in arrivals from the US.
