The Boathouse Nelson - post flood update
Hello Everyone .....................A quick mid-December post-flood Boathouse update. Thank you for all your concern and the good news is that Wakefield Quay is open again and The Boathouse was untouched by mud or water. With the current closure of Rocks Road it is fantastically quiet here (of people and cars !) and this is a unique time to sit on the deck and listen to the birds on the Boulder Bank.

“The Nelson Tasman region is cleared for take-off,” says Lynda Keene, Chief Executive of Nelson Tasman Tourism. The communities of Nelson City and Tasman District are keen to welcome returning visitors and holiday-makers to the region over the Christmas/New Year holiday period.” All towns in the region and major visitor accommodation, activities and attractions are open for visitors including Golden Bay and all swimming spots have been re-opened. Swimming at Tahunanui beach and access to Cable Bay are due to re-open later in the week.

“The Nelson Tasman region is most definitely open,” says Lynda Keene, Chief Executive of Nelson Tasman Tourism, “and industry operators and DOC teams are keen to welcome returning visitors and new visitors to the region over the Christmas/New Year holiday period.” All major visitor activities and attractions in the region are open for visitors, with the exception of road access to the Totaranui Camping Ground. However, Totaranui camping facilities are available for travellers via water taxi or boat access. A number of beaches are closed to swimmers and for gather shellfish, however we anticipate the majority of beaches will re-open within the next few days.

Nelson ended its Rugby World Cup on a high at the weekend, as the biggest rugby crowd in recent history packed Trafalgar Park to witness the Wallabies' 68-22 romp over a gallant Russian side. Although an Australian victory was never in doubt, the sellout crowd of 16,307 supported both teams, roaring with approval on the three occasions the Bears managed to score.
